„Modelling the Flesh“ – International Congress on Wax Modelling

The Congress in London will present a comprehensive analysis of wax modelling with: History (Major Collections), Anatomy and Science (Anatomical/pathological/dermatological/botanical models), Art and Portraiture (Effigies, Portraits, Waxworks, Funeral Masks, Votive), Conservation and Restoration (maintaining, cleaning, repairing), Techniques, Contemporary Art. 

It will be presented at the Gordon Museum of Pathology, King's College in collaboration with The Worshipful Company of Wax Chandlers and Madame Tussauds and will explore the multidisciplinary potentials of the art of Ceroplastics in Art and Science. There will be a “Facial reconstruction” workshop by a Belgian Medical Artist, a demonstration of creating an anatomical model using and old technique by an English Medical Artist as well as an exhibition of contemporary artists to show that wax modelling is a contemporary technique.

This project is intended as a fantastic opportunity for the gathering of experts, professionals and artists who are interested and engaged in the study, conservation, development and protection of collections and works of art created in this material.

Deadline for the ‘Call for Papers’ is 31st of March 2017.
