Marika Hedin: „Exhibiting science or scientists? The dilemma of the modern science museum”

im Rahmen der Ausstellung „on/off. Vom Nobelpreis und den Grenzen der Wissenschaft” in Göttingen

12. January 2017 18.15 Uhr
Tagungs- und Veranstaltungshaus Alte Mensa, Wilhelmsplatz 3, 37073 Göttingen, Taberna

Marika Hedin, Director of Gustavianum, Uppsala University Museum

Science museums have made great strides in the past decades and are now among the most visited museums in the world. They have also received recognition as a tool to make young people interested in science and technology, at a time when most Western countries need more engineers and scientists. At the same time, scientists themselves have accused museums of over-simplifying their topic and focusing on individual science ”heroes”, not at all reflecting the fact that modern science is all about complexity and teamwork. In this talk Marika Hedin will give some examples from the Nobel Museum, The Vasa Museum and Gustavianum on the challenges of exhibiting modern science. The talk will also connect with a commented tour of the current exhibition ”on/off. The Nobel Prize and the Boundaries of Science”.

Im Anschluss an den Vortrag wird es eine kommentierte Führung durch die Ausstellung zusammen mit dem Ausstellungsmacher Joachim Baur geben.
